Now, let’s talk about a couple things from crypto-land, and also give you a taste of what we’ve been up to here at Metacoin.co HQ.
“NFTs Are Having A Moment”
That news flash came to you from me on the Own The Narrative program(me), as I asked Phil Gomes from Bloq.com to help us make sense of it all. He did, and there was a cute story involving a Mother’s Day gift for his wife. Here’s the video:
If you want to watch the whole hour-long discussion with Phil, check it out below:
In Kinda-Sorta-Related News, MegaCryptoPolis Is On Fire
Imagine the Sims, but with non-fungible tokens, plus some sort of DeFi element. We feel like we’ve been talking about MCP3D since forever ago — a quick trip to the Metacoin archives tells us…IT’S BEEN NEARLY TWO YEARS! — so we’re not surprised that users started to warm up to the coin behind the launch ($MEGA) and send it somewhat-Moon-bound.
Where this gets NFT-esque is when you start buying, selling, and trading the tokens that make up the game, including the digital people (“Citizens”) whose attributes can help you acquire more game assets (should these Citizens be Intelligent, or Charismatic, or Lucky). The game developers hid some “Astronauts” in some packs of game tokens — 10/10 on each of the six attributes — and you can buy one on the open market (not on OpenSea anymore, though; MCP3D uses Matic to power its own token trading). 100 ETH seems high for “Alan B. Shepard” when you realize that Norman is the exact same character. (And get a load of “I AM ERROR.”)
The Brilliance of Jim Rogers
This guy is an incredible interviewee — a walking soundbite, clever as heck, charming as all get out — and it was a treat to sit down with him a couple weeks back. Full interview follows below, but this particular snippet took off:
Whole interview (28 Minutes):
So, About That “Everyone Is Pivoting To Something Else” Idea...
Elon Musk decides to invest in Bitcoin while sending rockets into space and building electric cars. Lindsay Lohan sells NFTs (and ones, I’m told, that aren’t that gosh-darn bad). Heck, I know people who are launching their own tokens — like putting their name on some sort of Bitcoin-like substance and giving them to their peeps — and Taco Bell is selling virtual tacos like they’re actual tacos (except you can’t eat them and they’re not on the dollar menu).
The OGs of crypto — Bitcoin, or Ethereum — are still rocking in the free world, it would seem, but everyone else is trying to figure out where any of this is going; did you think a year ago that anyone would be trying to send stock of a dying video game store (at the mall) (that no one goes to) to “the Moon?”
Be prepared, I guess, to pivot. And pivot again.
And watch this space for when I launch my own NFT.
